I haven't tried the Ascalon Foothills yet. I know that one chest is guaranteed. However, it's a longer run, and one must also provide for self defense and self healing there, which is not the case in the Shing Jea run.
To me, the important question is how many points per hour can one expect to get from a run. A lower spawn rate of chests is perfectly acceptable if the overall point rate is the same or better. So far, it looks like Shing Jea is worth about 6k Lucky points per hour, run from either side. Does the Foothills run provide more than that?
@system.fan: What does my belief have to do with anything? What does Rhea's Crater have to do with the question? I'm reporting what I'm seeing, not what I'm believing. Are you trying to tell me I'm getting a spawn rate below 90% because I don't believe I will get a spawn rate of 90%? Or are you trying to tell me I must go to Rhea's Crater and prove that you are correct before I will get a spawn rate of 90% on Shing Jea? Or are you saying that going to Rhea's Crater will somehow prove that the spawn rate on Shing Jea actually IS 90%, but I'm just blind to it because I haven't been to Rhea's Crater? Your logic is escaping me. Dude.

[irony]Very intelligent question....[/irony]
Rhea's is just an example at which you can easily see that the spawn places of chests change if the portal you're starting your run at changes...
You can try it in any other Area too... Another exapmle is Pongmei Valley. If you start your run from Borea's there will be 2-3 Chests near the Kurzick Forest... But if you start from Maatu Keep there will be 1 or no chest near the kurzick forest....
So EVERYWHERE the chest spawning places will change if you start from another position... and MOST times the chests are far away from the portal you start from.
And if you look at map of Shing Yea run... you will see that the chest spawning place i showed you is farer away from monastery than from cho's...
All i wanted to say is that IMO there is more often a chest if you start from monastery!
and i dont care if you believe that or not.... its not my wasted time...

Yes, the position of possible chest spawns changes depending on the portal you use to enter an explorable. I would have to be pretty blind not to see that, and it can be proven to a statistical near certainty.
I am simply asking why this should make a difference, since I am not seeing any difference. If there is no difference, then running from Minister Cho's is a better use of my time, since the runs are slightly faster.
Let's look at the theory:
Does the total number of chests that spawn in an explorable change? Every bit of evidence I've seen says the number of chests is a constant. (E.g., always three chests in Whitman's Folly regardless of whether you enter from Droks or Port Sledge. Always five chests in Ice Cliff Chasms, regardless of whether you enter from Boreal, Eye, or Norrhart.) Do you disagree with this?
Does the total number of possible spawn points in an explorable change? I see no evidence of that. One or more close to the entry portal become inactive. An equal number further away become active. If there are, say, 10 active spawn points when you enter from portal A, there are 10 when you enter from portal B, but in different locations. Do you disagree with this?
If the number of spawn points is unchanged by the choice of portal, and the number of chests is unchanged by the choice of portal, I would expect that the probability of a chest spawning on a given active point is also unchanged by the choice of portal. Do you have any reason to think that this expectation is in error?
Assuming we are in agreement so far, let's apply this to Sunqua Vale:
How many of the Sunqua Vale spawn points are in the temple? Entering from Shing Jea, I've seen chests in around seven different locations in the temple. I have seen chests in the same number of temple locations entering from Minister Cho's, though the locations within the temple are different. For example, there is never a chest near the northern signpost when entering from Cho's and there is sometimes one near the southern signpost. The reverse is true when entering from the Monastery. My observations tell me the number of spawn points in the temple is the same, regardless of portal, and only the locations vary. Are your observations different?
Thus:
1. The total number of active Sunqua Vale spawn points is a constant, not affected by portal of entry.
2. The number of active spawn points allocated to the temple is a constant, not affected by portal of entry.
3. The total number of Sunqua Vale chests is a constant, not affected by portal of entry.
4. The probability of a chest spawning on any given active point is a constant, not affected by portal of entry.
Under these conditions, why would I expect my chances of finding a chest in the temple to change based on the portal I use? If the four statements above are correct, then the math says the chances must be exactly the same. For matters to be otherwise, either there must be some additional factor that I have overlooked, or one of the statements must be incorrect. Please explain which is the case.
After a couple of hours of running from each location, my findings are matching this theory. Regardless of which portal I use, I'm finding a chest in the temple about 40% of the time. Perhaps this will change when I have a few more hours of observation under my belt, but I don't see why it would. If you do, then please explain it to me.

Sort answer , no and no.
Long answer : Is not a longer run lol , you only have to get there once and then rezone as many times as you want/need. While you are in the zone , chest is about 3 or 4x closer to a portal than Shing Jea .
There are 5 spawn spots , 4 of them are very close to the nearest portal to yaks bend zone so more than 80% of the times you are getting a chest in 20-30 sec .
Self defense and healing there ? they are bloody low lvls , with 33% speed and 75% dodge the worst scenario is you being KDed while opening a chest and recieving .... 15-30 dmg ?. Dunno , i always did this with my ranger and only needed 4 skills there , 5 if you pack IaU.

Well , since you can get 4 chests every 6-7 mins yes , it gives more than 6k per hour but thats just estimated calc.

Unlucky title
How do you max Unlucky before Lucky? I get way more points on everything to Lucky title..
I have 1.800.000 Lucky points and only 190.000 Unlucky.
That means my Lucky is at 72% and Unlucky at only ~40% of max title.
(I have max Treasure Hunter)
My question is, which is faster/effective for maxing Unlucky:
a) going for chests with low retain rate = more lockpicks broken
b) going for chests with high retain rate = fewer lockpicks broken but more points from every pick broken
In first case, yes you do brake more lockpicks, so it would seem logical to get more points towards the title, but in case b) your retain rate is higher so you get more points for every lockpick that breaks.
For example if my retain rate is 41%, that means out of 10 chests opened, I will break 4 lockpicks and thus get 41 x 2.5 = 102pts for every pick = 408 points. In case I go for low-end chests, I have retain rate of 90% and thus in 10 chests opened I brake only 1 lockpick which results in 90 x 2.5 = 225pts. That means I have to open 20 low-end chests to get results of opening 10 high-end chests. I suppose that opening 20 low-end is slower, but a lot cheaper since you need to break only 2 picks to get results of braking 4 picks at high-end chests.
I haven't done chestrunning in a long time so what do you think, is it possible to find 1.5-2 times more low-end chests than high-end to maximize your effectiveness (speed/gold loss ratio)?

Look at the Least Cost Method section of the wiki article on Treasure Hunter. Note that you will end up at max TH with 575k Unlucky points (more than max) and 1.5m Lucky points (far short of max). That's how.
If you're running chests simply to max Unlucky, then look at the Notes section of the wiki article on Lucky.
Quote:
The number of lockpicks required to max the Unlucky title track depends on the type of chests opened. For the shortest time requirement, a player would need to open 8,000 chests with 50% retain rate, breaking 4000 lockpicks, to max this title.
|
If you're interested in the Least Cost method rather than Least Time, then follow the Treasure Hunter table.

Ah, I see.. It's because I had 5.000 chests opened with keys (not lockpicks). So I have to re-do it again and open thousands of chests to max the Unlucky title. Wow, I'll actually need to break like 2000 lockpicks

Hey guys, looking for some advice on the best run to take. My retention rate is 59% (r5 treasure, r2 lucky). I actually couldnt care aless about maxing lucky or unlucky, so runs good for those dont matter to me.
I'm hoping to get 250 chests a day, so a fast run would be great (50 chests or so an hour...)
Oh, and Wisdom is also somewhat important to me. I'd like to have that max sometime but can just buy from other players if push comes to shove.
Which do you recommened?

What chest runs would you recommend for decently fast TH title but also a chance at rare skins?

Most Rare skins dont come from chests you can run but you still have Fronis ( not so rare skins but drop Fellblades , Greater Summit Axe , Ornate Spears , Forked spears ... ) and maybe some Factions places like Melandrus Hope ( echovalds/gothic shields ... ) or Gyala Hatchery .

Here you got some Map's for those Runs:
LIGHT BLUE DOT = Start Point
YELLOW DOTS = Possible Chest Spawn Location
BIG RED DOT = DIE HERE for faster run!
PINK DOT = YOU GET REZZED HERE (you have to be kurzick or it won't work!!!)
little red dots = route
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go out alone. and die at big red dot! (you have to be kurzick!)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I'll add some more canthan run's if i find time to take screenshots
Good Luck Have Fun =)
/E: new map: Xaquang Skyway:
1 Picture: Full run.... for Celestial & many Canthan Skins.
2 Picture: Half run, half time.... for celestial skins and only a few canthan.
/E: just got this one at xaquang... so for those who think you only get crap in there:

For Boreas, the quest "The Alcyon Job" is required or not ?
Without the quest, luxon assassins don't pop.
And for a such run, what's the profession is required ? With War is possible or with a SF sin ?

Bit confused. I haven't done chest running in a while, but I was wondering. If I'm not going for lucky/unlucky, should I run in HM or NM?
Gonna be running GH for a bit.
Also, what skins should I be looking for in Gyala Hatchery.

SystemFan, is the chestrun @ zos chivros only viable with the Halcyon quest or can it be done without it as well?
Also, i would be interested in a good sin running bar (been away from the scene for 5 months, SF nerf hit hard?)
Thanks in advance,, Shiro

Sorry guys nearly forgot that =)
Yes for the boreas run you also need the Halcyon Job quest active... =)
But there is an alternative for those who don't have the quest anymore.
Start at Zos too.... but run to your left, to the outcast boss and let him kill you...
you will be rezzed at another shrine than. its near some island guardians... there's a chest too. but ofc without the rly nice skins like bo and dragon staff =)
greetz
@IattackU:
i'd do HM... elite tomes and more gold items =)
@Adriaanz#Shiro:
1. Deadly Paradoxon
2. Shadow Form
3. Shroud
4. Dwarven Stability
5. dash
6. Dark escape
7. Charge of Death (not sure if its the name?, the shadow step with selfheal)
8. Anti KD or Neutrality, depending on which area you run at
